A woman purchased a Tiffany diamond ring on a credit card belonging to her rock star ex-lover as ‘payback’ for ending their relationship, a court heard yesterday.

Dawn Buckler and Rocco Barker, lead guitarist in 80s band Flesh For Lulu, split up after appearing in television mini-series A Place in Spain: Costa Chaos.

Mr Barker, 48, had his former partner arrested after she used his credit card to spend £5,000 on a ring on the Tiffany & Co website, before sending him a message reading: ‘Payback, b*****d’.

Miss Buckler, 34, stood trial at Southwark Crown Court for false accounting but was cleared of the charge by a jury after only 35 minutes deliberation.

She claims she was unaware the relationship had ended until she discovered Mr Barker was living with another woman.

After the verdict, the former rocker confronted Miss Buckler in the corridor, and the pair had to be separated by a police officer. 

She later said she was ‘thrilled’ by the result as Mr Barker continued to claim he was owed more than £100,000.

The couple’s relationship was the highlight of the 2007 Channel 4 series which followed their attempt to buy a Spanish villa in the hills near Barcelona.

Despite having no DIY skills, they planned to redesign the property as a luxury retreat for A-listers.

Mr Barker claims to have spent over half a million on the £2,500-a-week, five-bedroom ‘Casa Jet Set’, of which the couple continue to share ownership.

Mr Barker, who was also a member of early Eighties band Wasted Youth, met Miss Buckler in 2002 as a tenant in her flat.

Judge Brian O’Neill, told jurors: ‘It was by all accounts a tempestuous relationship.

‘It appears to have been marked by a series of rows and reconciliations.

‘In 2005 they moved to Spain where their attempts to create their place in the sun were the subject of a TV programme.’  

The relationship began to fall apart during filming in 2005, although Miss Buckler claimed they became engaged in May that year.

When Mr Barker failed to join her in Spain for Christmas in 2006, she took revenge by purchasing the Tiffany ring.

Judge O’Neill told the court: ‘She wanted to hurt him emotionally. She says she spoke to him the following day and told him about her purchase.

‘Two days later on Christmas Eve he told her their relationship was at an end.’

Mr Barker, who remortgaged his London home to buy the Spanish villa, told the court that he did not notice the payment until early 2007.

Miss Buckler claimed he had given her a budget of £5,000 to buy an engagement ring and said she was not acting dishonestly but ‘emotionally’.
